Ever heard of M.A. Johnson? Don’t worry, this won’t be the last time. The crew of PulseOfThePavement sat down for an interview with the up-and-coming artist. We quickly learned he is as humble, intelligent, charismatic and ambitious as they come.
His lyrical content and ambition have him on the rise within the Wisconsin hip hop scene. Watch out Jermaine Cole,Big K.R.I.T. and Wale, this isn’t “Control”, but someone is coming for you.
Though he does listen to and respect the aforementioned artists, M.A. grew up on old-school hip hop. “I started off listening to some of the pioneers like Master P and Big L.” M.A. said.
M.A. has deep lines that remind people of lyrical rappers such as Black Thought and Mos Def. The thought and creative fluency that he brings in his verses is truly refreshing given all of the sub-par, non-lyrical music being released today.
His crew FuLL EFFeKK is filled with young, talented artists. There may be a group project in the works, but you’ll have to follow him to see. (Hint hint) “FuLL EFFeKK is about loyalty and respect. Everyone has their own kind of service they contribute.” M.A. said.
If you check out his Youtube channel, you can tell that M.A. is a workaholic. Music videos, freestyles, family life, basketball highlights, performances and sneak peaks of him in the studio. He tries to stay busy and grow as a person everyday.
Expect Me On Arrival is starting to get the buzz it deserves; A catchy hook and solid verses make this song of his most recognizable to date.
He recently got a placement with Prospectt, a “We The Best/Cash Money Records” artist. Having an affiliation with “We The Best Music” will definitely help M.A.’s music career going forward.
He’s not only a rapper, but he’s a dedicated father. His daughter, Navaeh, is gifted with words as well. He tries to be a positive role model because she is starting follow in his footsteps with music.
M.A. Johnson has the skill, drive and positive attitude to be the next big artist, and trust me, you don’t want to sleep on him especially with the projects he has on the way.
Make sure to visit M.A.’s website to keep up with his latest music and follow him on Twitter and Facebook.
Bonus:
M.A also helped us with our first ever Lightning Round. We asked some rapid-fire questions and here’s the first things he thought of:
-Pac or Biggie? “Pac.”
-MJ, LeBron or Kobe? “Kobe.”
-If you could have one superpower what would it be? “To change the world. I don’t want anyone to have to suffer or struggle anymore.”
-What would you eat for your last meal? “Spaghetti, man. I love my fiance and mother-in-law’s spaghetti the best.”
-What's your guilty pleasure song? “Ahh man, probably Pretty Boy Swag by Soulja. That song just gets me.”
